Flash on Android

Not a company to be kept down, Adobe has come bouncing back after the recent iPhone debacle with the announcement of private betas for Flash Player 10.1 and AIR 2.0 on Android-powered devices. Lee Brimelow, author of TheFlashBlog, posted a new article over the weekend that shows how well Flash is able to run on the platform.

Developer Jobe Makar, creator of Fruit Smash Organic on the iPhone, posted his thoughts on developing applications for Android devices using Adobe’s tools. The results? Apparently it is turning out great! Makar notes that he was able to port his game to the Nexus one in less than three hours and states “the game performance is great! It doesn’t even think about dropping below full frame rate, and easily out performs the same app running on the iPhone.”

Brimelow made it a point to take a stab at Apple saying “Expect more and more testimonials like this as the beta gets out to all developers. We are able to get tremendous performance on Android devices because Google and the various handset manufacturers have chosen to work closely with us to provide the best possible experience to the end user. Go Android!”

If Brimelow is correct and more developers start utilizing Flash and creating apps for Android devices, Apple’s decision to cut Adobe out of the iPhone market may come back to haunt them.

  1. Erick Said,

I’ve downloaded the Flash 10.1 Beta Player for my Mac at home and PC at work. I’ll have to say it’s pretty damn good. They’re even doing p2p in the new build with something called Stratus.
