Android Nabs Second
Google and Apple have been battling it out in the mobile arena for some time now and Apple has always maintained its edge until now. NPD is reporting that for the first quarter of 2010, Google’s Android platform has successfully surpassed the iPhone. This is certainly a great accomplishment for the Android platform, but both Apple and Google are still far behind market leader RIM and the seemingly unstoppable Blackberry line. RIM commands a 36% market share while Google trails at 28% and Apple rounds out the bunch at 21%.
In recent months, Android devices have become increasingly popular and it isn’t hard to see why. Google is finally seeing some great phones incorporating their OS including the new, well-received Droid Incredible. It also doesn’t hurt to have the Verizon network on their side and some great promotions including a buy one, get one free deal on the Droid.
What do you think? Will Apple’s upcoming OS 4 release be enough to reclaim the number two position or will the Android platform continue to win over consumers?
