Hubble’s 10 Greatest Findings
The Hubble Space Telescope, or HST to those in the know, is awesome. So in love with this telescope am I that I even named one of my cats after it. My cat Hubble is badass, but even his copious amount of cool pales in comparison to that of the HST. The telescope has increased scientists’ understanding of the universe by an absurd amount over the twenty years it has been in service. Yup, Hubble celebrated its twenty year anniversary this April and Space.com has posted a list of what they consider the ten most amazing discoveries of those twenty years.
Below is the list, in order, but for more details check out the original Space.com feature.
10 – Dark matter
Wait, wait, wait…I just wanted to point out that you know you are in for a badass top 10 list when number 10 is freaking dark matter! Ok, continue…
9 – Pluto and its kin
8 – Protoplanetary discs
7 – Gamma ray bursts
6 – Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9
5 – Dark energy
4 – Black holes
3 – Alien worlds
2 – The beginning of time (somehow this isn’t good enough for the top spot)
While the HST has given us many awe-inspiring images of galaxies, nebulae and the Ultra Deep Field, Hubble the cat’s greatest discovery thus far has been that biting my other cat and getting a mouthful of fur is perhaps not the most pleasant thing in the world. Oh well, he’s only like two years old, we’ll see what he comes up with when he’s twenty.

LMFAO! Ryan you out did yourself with this article! So far… Best Nerdum Article of 2010!
