iPhone + Android = Possible
David Wang has successfully booted Google’s Android operating system on Apple’s iPhone! In his YouTube video it shows him using a 2G iPhone with its normal OS running, then the dual boot process to run Android. He achieved this by booting up with Linux then allowing Android to take over the boot process. The demo shows him using Android on his iPhone to browse the web, playing music, receiving a text message, and answering a phone call.
“It’s not really production-quality yet, …I’d say it’s alpha quality. But pretty much everything works.” – David Wang
Due to the limited amount of physical buttons on the iPhone the Android-on-iPhone hack isn’t really ideal, but what David Wang has accomplished is a first of its kind and a great achievement!
“It should be pretty simple to port forward to the iPhone 3G. The 3GS will take more work,” Wang said on the blog. “Hopefully with all this groundwork laid out, we can make Android a real alternative or supplement for iPhone users. Maybe we can finally get Flash.”
Pretty badass of the guy, it seems Flash finds a way, to paraphrase Ian Malcolm of Jurassic Park fame. Haha.
