Get ready to 4G it up, HTC EVO on June 4

by Paul On May - 13 - 2010

Sprint has finally revealed pricing and a release date for the first 4G phone on the market. The EVO will come out on June 4 at a $199 price tag AFTER a $100 mail in rebate, 2 year contract, and a premium data plan. This data plan will run you an extra $10 a month over the normal data plan.

That’s a pretty competitive price point and a release date just 3 days before Apple’s WWDC where it’s almost a guarantee that the new iPhone will be unveiled. Something else interesting to point out in the press release is that the phone comes with Flash. This might mean a roll out of flash to android devices very soon.

For those not up to date on the EVO, here are some of the major features.

  • Android platform, Android 2.1
  • Simultaneous voice and data capability in 4G and Wi-Fi coverage areas, enabling Web surfing and more while the conversation continues.
  • Superfast 1GHz Qualcomm(R) Snapdragon(TM) processor, ensuring a smooth and quick movement within phone menus.
  • Two cameras – an 8.0 megapixel auto-focus camera with HD-capable video camcorder and a forward-facing 1.3 megapixel camera.
  • Built-in mobile hotspot functionality allowing up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices to share the 3G or 4G experience on the go with a laptop, camera, music player, game unit, video player, or any other Wi-Fi enabled device. (This is $29 extra a month)
  • Integrated HD video capture with the ability to capture and share live video via the Qik Web site, Facebook, YouTube or Twitter(TM).
  • Ability to easily watch video with the device on an HDTV via an HDMI cable (sold separately).
  • Custom Web browser optimized for the 4.3 inch display and Sprint 4G speeds to deliver a full, no-compromise Internet experience.
  • A handy kickstand built into the back, making it easy to watch videos on-the-go.
  • Adobe Flash technology ensures that rich Internet content, such as embedded video and animation, are displayed the way they are meant to be seen.
  • Pinch-to-zoom and automatic text reflowing provide easy Web page views.

  1. Ryan Said,

This phone looks pretty badass; I would get one, but I’m not sure how service is with Sprint. And I like how it incorporates Flash; it looks like that is going to be a feature Apple’s rivals can really push as an advantage.

  2. Davey Verb Said,

I think I may jump on this bandwagon…even with the extra $10 for data, you are coming out ahead over a verizon or att contract. Even though its google and sprint..i still feel like buying this is “stickin’ it to the man” a bit!
