Natal Officially Named: Kinect

by Ryan On June - 14 - 2010

Microsoft has officially revealed the new name for Project Natal and that name is Kinect. Love it or hate it, that’s what you’ll be calling the new motion control system for the Xbox 360. The big reveal happened yesterday evening and along with the name, Microsoft also announced that we can expect to see Kinect available for purchase this November. The story was broken not by a big gaming destination such as IGN or G4, but instead it was an article in USA Today which should give a pretty clear indication of Kinect’s target market.

Microsoft also showed off a handful of games at the event. Some of which had been previously demonstrated while others were new. The games showed included Kinect Sports, which is pretty much a blatant Wii Sports clone; Kinectimals, a game where you interact with virtual animals; Dance Central, an MTV-made dancing title; and a Star Wars title which actually shows a lot of potential.

For the most part, what we’ve seen so far is the casual bonanza everyone was expecting. However, the Star Wars game is definitely something to keep an eye on. Expect to see plenty more on Kinect as E3 continues through the rest of the week.

Looks slick! The name is alright… Can’t wait to see this thing in action (and that’s what she said)!

  2. Rhuno Said,

Yeah, the Kinect name is ok, but so far I haven’t seen anything that really makes me want it. The Star Wars thing looks cool, but the demo was too short and obviously wasn’t running in real time. I hear the interface stuff like navigating the 360 dashboard is pretty cool though.

Also, they’re using the color scheme Casey and I are planning on using for the wedding! :)
