Microsoft X10 Wrapup

by Ryan On February - 11 - 2010

Microsoft held their Xbox 360 event, X10, today in San Francisco. We’ve got all the news from the event right here. Arguably the biggest news to come out of the show was that the Halo: Reach beta will officially begin on May 3. As announced previously, only ODST owners will be able to participate so if you haven’t picked up that game yet (you should have), you may want to do so now. Bungie also released some new screenshots for the game and showed off the box art for when the title is released this Fall.

Other noteworthy releases include Dead Rising 2 which will makes its way to US retail shelves on August 31, 2010 and the Xbox 360 version will feature an exclusive DLC episode entitled Case Zero. Alan Wake is another popular title that gamers have been waiting for and come May 18 they’ll be able to pick it up. While you’re picking up Alan Wake, you can also purchase Lost Planet 2 which will be available the same day. The XBLA remake of Perfect Dark will finally be hitting the digital marketplace next month; I’m personally really looking forward to that! Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell: Conviction was given an April 13 release date and Fable 3 received a somewhat vague “holiday 2010″ date.

The Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 bundle we mentioned earlier was confirmed at the show today and if you were hoping for a PS3 bundle, you’re out of luck. The Microsoft press release made it a point to state, “Xbox 360 is the only console outside of Japan to be bundled with the game, available in stores starting March 9, while supplies last.” According to Major Nelson, the bundle will score you some exclusive downloadable avatar items. In addition to the limited console package, custom FFXIII faceplates will be available.

That pretty much sums it all up; nothing especially groundbreaking, but it does show that the 360 is set for a very solid 2010.

  1. Eric Said,

I hope Halo Reach is better than ODST was. Perfect Dark is a definite throw back to N64 days!

Sounds like Square (FFXIII) is Xbox’s valentine! ;)

  2. Ryan Said,

Judging from the recent video documentary that’s been floating around, I would say it will be a better game than ODST. From what I’ve heard every one that’s seen it has come away very impressed. That said, I really enjoyed ODST; I thought it was a step in the right direction for the series after 2 and 3 and the atmosphere and mood during the rookie segments was fantastic. It was also a unique way to tell the story and show the events of the day from each character’s unique perspective.
