Halo: Reach and the Evolution of Art

Bungie has posted a fascinating new article on the Halo: Reach project page of their website which chronicles the improvement of various art assets in the Halo series throughout the years. The article shows side by side comparisons of assets as they appeared in past Halo titles as well as how they will look in the upcoming Halo: Reach.
This is an interesting read and offers a unique look at things from the inside. Several high resolution images are viewable showing the progression of things such as the assault rifle, the warthog and also some of the characters from the games. I was most impressed with how the marine models have advanced; it’s good to see the face of old Captain Keyes, but it sure looks different than I remember it. Also, what’s up with the giant head on the marine from Halo 2?
All in all it looks like Bungie has managed to stay true to the style of the series while simultaneously improving the quality of the assets. In addition to the article, they’ve posted new screenshots from the game right here.
